All you need to know about saucepans!

You can’t have a functional kitchen without a frying pan, as you’ll need it for everything from boiling pasta to making a tasty sauce to cooking rice. Read on to learn more about this multipurpose tool and why you should include it in your kitchen arsenal.

To put it simply, what’s a saucepan?

From sauces to pasta, this is an indispensable kitchen tool. It has a long handle and a circular shape with high sides. More significant amounts of food can be cooked at once, thanks to the pan’s increased surface area and the high sides. Because of its larger surface area, it can heat or cook food uniformly. You can safely move the pan around the stovetop and oven because of its long (though shorter than a cooking pan’s handle) and excellent grip. The standard lid on most pans is ideal for the stovetop simmering process.

What can you cook in saucepans?

They are multipurpose vessels that can heat soup or make your favourite sauce. Stepping sides on a pan means more surface area for heating the water or sauce inside. Due to their high walls and complexity, these pans can be used for slow cooking, deep frying, or simmering grains and pasta, even though these methods are less common.

    Comparing Saucepans to Other Cookware

The shape distinguishes it from other cooking vessels that are otherwise functionally similar. The pan’s deep design and high sides make it ideal for heating or cooking liquids. It’s a handy tool for any cook because it can be used for various recipes. This is essential to your kitchenware collection if you frequently cook or heat liquids. Read our Best Cookware Sets guide to learn more about the various sets available.

    Components for this pan

Materials for these pans vary, and each has its advantages, from rapid heating to oven safety.

Stainless steel: seems to be a common material for these pans because it is durable, easy to clean, and efficient at distributing heat. You can still show off your stainless steel pan if you have a small kitchen.

Copper: You’ll have complete control over your cooking thanks to copper’s fast heating and cooling times. This feature will ensure proper and even cooking of your food. Copper cookware is built to last and can even be used with other metal cookware. To prevent copper from reacting with the minerals in food and altering the taste, some cookware manufacturers line their copper cookware with stainless steel. Copper cookware is oven safe and requires only hand washing.

Cast iron: cookware heats slowly and uniformly, perfect for letting flavours mellow over time. Cast iron has a heat retention property, so it cools slowly. Cast iron is ideal for keeping food at safe temperatures for extended periods, but it should be stored away from curious little fingers. Due to its high-temperature resistance, cast iron is suitable for use in the oven. The best way to clean it is by hand.

Pans made of aluminium are excellent heat conductors but can be dented or scorched if not handled carefully. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance saucepan, aluminium options are great because they’re lightweight and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. You should consult the product manual if you want to know how to clean something.

    Coating of the pan

Pick a pan’s coating that complements your preferred cooking method.

Nonstick: A nonstick pan has a thin coating that prevents food from adhering to the surface while cooking. This makes the pan simple to use and clean. A nonstick pan is an excellent investment if you’re trying to reduce the amount of oil you use in your cooking.

Enamelled: Enamel pans start with a cast iron or steel core and get a porcelain coating for a glossy finish. This produces a tough and long-lasting surface resistant to scratches, giving you more peace of mind in the kitchen.
