How IPTV is Revolutionizing the Way We Stream Our Entertainment

If you have ever wondered about IPTV, you are not alone. The acronym stands for Internet Protocol Television, which is a type of technology you can get your television shows and other entertainment through streaming it over the Internet. This technology already has millions of subscribers and is taking over the way you watch series, movies, news, sports and more.

    What is IPTV?

Internet protocol television technology essentially utilizes the same idea as VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) for phone calls. It relies on your Internet connection to transmit — or stream — television programs or movies to your TV, computer, tablet or smartphone. With VoIP, you rely on your Internet connection to make or receive phone calls from your device.

IPTV allows you to watch whatever you want by selecting the TV show or movie of your choice. Unlike standard cable or satellite television, which provides shows or movies only when they are available in real-time, you can watch what you want when you want. The only requirement is to tune in when you want and watch a show or movie by streaming it. It relies on video on demand (VOD), time-shifted media or IP simulcasting technology.

When you ask the question “What is IPTV?” the answer is simpler than you might think. Most likely, you already use services that are examples of it: Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video fall under the category of Internet protocol television. You use the services on the Internet-connected device of your choice and stream entertainment to your heart’s desire.

How is IPTV Revolutionizing TV Watching?

Internet protocol television is revolutionizing the way you watch TV now and heading into the future. Over the past few years, more and more people have been cutting the cord on traditional cable and satellite TV subscriptions. Cable and satellite subscriptions have only been getting more expensive over the years while streaming TV services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and more are much cheaper, with some lowering their prices for loyal grandfathered subscribers. Some of these services even allow you to stream TV in real-time for a larger cost, but it is still far more affordable compared with traditional cable and satellite TV service.

How to Use IPTV at Home

When you use Internet protocol television in the comfort of your home, you can have multiple devices streaming shows or movies at the same time. This can be done using either your computer, tablet or smartphone or a TV with a streaming device connected to it. That streaming device can be a set-top box, current-generation game console or tuner stick. However, if you have a smart TV, you can watch shows and movies via Internet protocol television without one of those devices.

There is yet one more option you can use for streaming television programs and movies on your non-smart TV if you don’t have a set-top box. Some TVs allow you to mirror the screen of your smartphone or tablet to your TV screen. This is a great option if you prefer to watch on the larger screen.

These are some of the few ways in which this incredible technology is innovating the way we watch TV and movies. If you haven’t checked out Internet protocol television, you don’t know what you’re missing.
