The safety and precautions taken in removing asbestos from your property

Removing asbestos from a property is a highly sensitive and potentially dangerous process
that requires meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety. Asbestos is a hazardous
material that can lead to severe health issues, including lung cancer and mesothelioma, if its
fibers are inhaled. Therefore, before any removal activity is undertaken, a thorough
    asbestos inspection is essential.

This assessment, typically completed by certified professionals, helps identify the extent and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) present in the property. Once identified, it’s crucial to develop an effective management plan tailored to the specific situation, which includes proper notification of tenants or occupants and securing necessary permits.

During the asbestos removal process, strict safety precautions must be adhered to. Workers should wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as respirators, disposable coveralls, and gloves, to minimise the risk of exposure. The work area should be cordoned off and clearly marked to prevent unauthorised access, with air monitoring tools in place to detect any fibre release.

Wetting the asbestos materials before removal can help reduce airborne
fibres, and the debris should be carefully placed in sealed, labeled containers for disposal.
Following the removal, thorough cleaning and decontamination of the work area are
essential. Engaging a licensed asbestos removal contractor, who understands the regulatory
requirements and best practices, is vital in ensuring the safety of both the workers and the
property’s occupants. By following these stringent safety protocols, the risks associated with
asbestos removal can be significantly mitigated, ensuring a safer environment for everyone
    involved.
