Apple has revolutionised the way we use mobile technology and the iPhone continues to be a must-have electronic device for the digital age. The brand has a cult following and people will do anything to get their hands on the latest models.Older versions of the iPhone retain their value and continue to be much sought after in the second-hand market. Those of us looking to upgrade will find it easy to sell an older model and use the opportunity to make some extra cash.

If I were looking to sell an old iPhone model, an online search would reveal dozens of companies willing to offer competitive rates. Most high-street games stores will also buy old iPhones, so it’s worth shopping around.

When you are looking to trade in your iPhone, it is beneficial to carry out some research first. The technology continues to evolve and although the software can be upgraded, there will be a point when it becomes too advanced to run on older, slower phones.

    History of the iPhone

Launched in June 2007, the first iPhone was widely anticipated among Apple enthusiasts. Demand was so great that Apple was forced to manufacture higher than expected numbers. Users were impressed by the cutting-edge touchscreen technology and the ground-breaking audio and visual experience.

2008 saw the launch of the iPhone 3G. More expensive than the original, it possessed a completely new operating system that was much faster. It also contained more memory and had assisted GPS. The following year the iPhone 3G was updated to the 3GS, with better storage capacity, increased battery life and a faster processor.

The hotly anticipated iPhone4 hit the stores in June 2010. The design of the phone was supervised by Steve Jobs himself and the phone is said to be one of his final masterpieces before his death. Slim, with a super-fast processor, the iPhone 4 boasts a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash, together with video-conferencing features. A little over a year later the iPhone 4S was released with even more features.

    The iPhone 5

In 2012 the iPhone was subject to a complete revamp and the iPhone 5 is 18% slimmer and 20% lighter than the previous model. The screen size is also larger to tap into the nation’s desire for games and applications. The latest operating system means that the iPhone 5 has a super-fast processing speed and connects to Wi-Fi with ease. The camera is much improved and boasts a panorama view.

Since its release in 2007, the iPhone has been transformed into the ultra-slim, super-fast version of today. There is much anticipation about the latest version, which is expected to be released in September 2013.

If you are considering selling your old iPhone in order to upgrade, my advice is to investigate online and second-hand stores. With demand for old iPhones so high, there is no better time to sell and you could receive an unexpectedly large amount of money for your phone.
