As technology continues to develop, the application of robots in manufacturing is becoming more and more common. The emergence of robots has brought many opportunities to manufacturers. They can perform various tasks in the production process and improve production efficiency, quality and safety. We will explore the use of robots in manufacturing and provide our recommendations on what kind of robots are needed for each part of production.

Which brand of industrial robot should be used in each scenario to be more cost-effective? The following are some suggestions we have given for reference only:

    Picking, Packing & Palletizing

Most industrial products undergo multiple processes before final shipment. Therefore, robotic packaging and picking not only reduces production costs but also increases accuracy and speed. The ABB IRB 360 series is ABB’s high-speed robot series, especially suitable for rapid picking, packaging and palletizing applications. The IRB 6600 series is ABB’s heavy-duty robot series, suitable for picking, packaging and palletizing tasks of large objects. The YuMi series is ABB’s line of collaborative robots that offer a high degree of precision and flexibility. Although it may be relatively slow, it excels in accuracy and can work in conjunction with human operators, making it suitable for some picking, packaging and palletizing tasks that require a high degree of precision and human-machine collaboration.

    Assembly

Modern robots assemble heavy products, eliminating tedious tasks. Robots increase production and reduce industrial operating costs. The FANUC R-2000iC series is a high-load robot series from FANUC, suitable for handling assembly tasks of large and heavy products. The M-900iB/360 series is a super large heavy-duty robot series from FANUC. These robots have extremely high load capacity and stability and are suitable for handling very large and heavy-duty assembly tasks, such as automotive parts, metal components, etc.

Mechanical Cutting, Deburring, Grinding & Polishing

Robots Dexterity provides such manufacturing that is otherwise very difficult to achieve. The production of orthopedic implants production such as hip & knee joints. The Buffing & polishing of a Hip Joint by hand can take upto 90 minutes while a robot can easily perform the same task in a few minutes. The KR AGILUS series is a small industrial robot series from KUKA, suitable for some more delicate and flexible cutting, deburring, grinding, and polishing tasks. The KR FORTEC series is KUKA’s ultra-heavy-duty industrial robot series, designed to handle large and heavy-duty cutting, deburring, grinding, and polishing tasks.

Gluing, Adhesive Sealing and Spraying Materials

Sealing Robots have built-in numerous Robotic Arm configurations due to which a robot can apply adhesives to any type of product. The main benefit is the increased quality, speed, quantity & consistency of the final product. Kawasaki RS series robots are specifically designed for gluing and bonding applications. These robots offer high precision and stability for glue application and bonding operations in a variety of industrial environments. Kawasaki ZX series robots are suitable for a variety of spray applications, including painting, coating and surface treatment. Kawasaki BX series robots are suitable for a variety of gluing, adhesive sealing and spraying applications. These robots have high payload capacity and stability and are suitable for handling larger and heavy workpieces. BX series robots have high speed and high precision, and can achieve fine gluing, bonding, sealing and spraying effects.

    Arc Welding

Automated Electric Arc Welding or Robotic Welding became common in the 1980’s Era. One of the main reasons for switching to robotic welding is the safeguard of workers from inhaling hazardous fumes & Electric Arc Burns. The MA1440 series robot is Yaskawa Motoman’s high-load welding series, suitable for medium to heavy-duty welding tasks and suitable for handling larger-sized and heavy-duty welding workpieces. The MA2010 series robot is Yaskawa Motoman’s medium-sized welding series, suitable for medium-sized welding tasks and processing medium-sized welding workpieces. The MA3120 series robots are Yaskawa Motoman’s high-speed welding series, suitable for light to medium-sized welding tasks. These robots offer high speed, precision and flexibility and are suitable for handling smaller welding workpieces.

    Spot Welding

Spot welding is a common metal welding method used to connect metal parts, especially in automobile manufacturing, metal manufacturing, and electronics industries. Nachi-Fujikoshi Company has launched multiple series of robots for spot welding applications. The main series suitable for spot welding are Nachi SCARA Robots and Nachi Six-Axis Robots.

Nachi’s SCARA robot offers high speed, stability, and precision for fast and accurate spot welding tasks.

They typically have a smaller working envelope and are suitable for small or compact workspaces.

Six-axis robots have greater flexibility and freedom in spot welding applications and can handle complex welding paths and angles. Nachi’s six-axis robots offer high speed, stability, and precision for a variety of spot welding applications. They typically have a larger working envelope and are suitable for welding tasks that require coverage of a larger workpiece area.

    Conclusion

The application of robots in manufacturing brings many advantages to enterprises. They improve production efficiency, quality and safety, reduce labor costs, and provide more flexible production capabilities. With the further development of technology, we can expect that the scope of application of robots in manufacturing will be further expanded, creating more opportunities and competitive advantages for enterprises.
