    Unable to Update Netgear Extender Firmware? Here’s The Fix

    Netgear, the manufacturer of the WiFi device regularly releases the new firmware versions for various models of its extenders to improve their performance, enhance security, and add new features. In some situations, users are unable to setup Netgear extender. This happens because they use an outdated version of firmware on their Netgear WiFi range extender. So, if you want to make your Netgear WiFi range extender up and running, you must update its firmware.

    Don’t know how to update Netgear extender’s firmware? You know the process but always fail? Don’t worry, we will guide you with the same. This post will help those users who are not able to perform the Netgear firmware update.

    To update the firmware on your Netgear range extender:

    1. Plug your Netgear extender in a working wall outlet that is near to your main router. Connect both your router and extender. Make sure that the power LED on both your devices is stable.
    2. Once done, get connected to Netgear_Ext.
    3. Then, launch a web browser on a computer, laptop, or mobile device and without any typos enter mywifiext in the address bar field.
    4. Enter your extender’s default login credentials and hit Log In.
    5. Now, Click on the Menu icon.
    6. Netgear WiFi extender menu displays.
    7. Select Settings and then the Firmware Update option. On the off chance if these options are not visible, select Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade > Check Online or Check.

    If the new firmware version is available, follow the instructions given on-screen to update Netgear extender’s firmware without any hassle.
    Note: Use of an outdated version of firmware will not let you change or apply any settings to various new extender setup processes until the new firmware version is successfully updated.

    You can also update the firmware of your device manually. To do so, follow the steps below.

    1. Connect your main router to the Netgear WiFi extender.
    2. Grab a smart device enter mywifiext local for Apple and iOS devices and mywifiext.net for Windows and Android devices.
    3. Log in to your Netgear WiFi range extender.
    4. Navigate to Maintenance > Firmware Update.
    5. Then, browse the downloaded Netgear extender firmware file, and hit Upload.
    6. Once step 4 is completed successfully, your Netgear extender will be updated to the latest firmware version.

    Sometimes, the Netgear firmware update task becomes tricky, especially for a newbie. If you are also struggling with the same, try a few troubleshooting tips given below.

    1. Your Netgear range extender must receive a continuous power supply and should be properly connected to your main router via Ethernet cable.
    2. Secondly, you have to ensure that your main router shouldn’t run an outdated version of the firmware. If so, consider updating your router’s firmware.
    3. Do not use faulty Ethernet cables to connect your router and extender.
    4. Ensure that your devices (router and extender) aren’t overheated.
    5. Make sure that you have the correct login details and the extender’s default web address.
    6. Place your router openly on a clean and higher surface.
    7. If there is fluctuation in the electricity, unplug your devices and access another socket.
    8. Make sure to update your web browser and clear cache, cookies, browsing history, etc. from it prior to accessing the Netgear extender’s login page.
