Having a car is no less than a bliss. You can travel wherever and whenever you want. But it is crucial to keep various driving-related documents handy. You can use the glove box in the car to keep various documents apart from storing snacks while driving on the road.

Many people take frequent long trips to stay away from the city’s pollution and noise. While taking a trip within or out of the city can be therapeutic, you can get stranded without essential documents. Before heading out of home, it is essential to make a checklist of documents to keep worries of the road at bay.

For times, when you step out of your home and take your car to move in and out of the city, make sure you keep these documents handy:

    1. Vehicle Registration Certificate

Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) is the most crucial document which you must carry in the car every time while going out.It is the proof that your vehicle is registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO). It contains essential details of the car, like chassis number, vehicle registration number, name and address of the owner, important dates, and similar others.

RC of the vehicle is usually valid until 15 years, which can be renewed for upto 5 years. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, RC is mandatory for all vehicles running on the road.

    • Motor insurance

Motor insurance is a document that you must keep being a vehicle owner, as mandatory by law. It covers a vehicle against damages and losses that occur while driving on the road. It is advisable to carry motor insurance all the time, along with other essential documents.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1939, it is mandatory to insure the vehicle under third-party motor insurance, at least. But you are advised to purchase a comprehensive motor insurance policy that also has own damage cover along with third-party liability cover.Make sure you also know what determines the car insurance premium.

    • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate

All vehicles emit gas and smoke as a result of burning fuel within the engine. Harmful gas emission should undergo a stream of filters to ensure it is not released into the atmosphere. For that, you need a PUC Certificate, another mandatory document to be carried while driving on Indian roads. You can get a PUC certificate from any nearby authorized computerized facility, commonly located near petrol pumps and workshops.

    • Driver’s License

Driver’s License (DL) is another essential document issued by the Regional Transport Authority to the people who have cleared driving tests. It is imperative to carry DL while driving on Indian roads; otherwise, its absence is a punishable offence. You can also use it as an identity proof for various purposes.

There are some essential documents which you must carry all the time when driving on the road. If you do not have any of these documents, it may cause you trouble and you might end up paying hefty fines.

Stay Protected with the Best Motor Insurance Policy

While all these documents are necessary when you hit the road, make sure you buy a suitable motor insurance policy. It not only saves you from paying fines but also gives financial protection during times of need.It is advisable to purchase it from reputable insurers like Tata AIG in India that offer comprehensive motor insurance policies with all the features you need.
